Dark Tide (2012) Quite a gripping story, but the fact that the dialogue is good plays a big part. Basically, I’m not a huge fan of Halle Berry or Olivier Martinez, but this film, which brings them together, is really good. Unfortunately, the last half-hour isn’t very explicit and is rather messy, as it takes place in the water and at night. But it’s still a good film overall. After all, there are quite a few decent shark films out there. You get a good look at these sea creatures and there are some spectacular scenes of people swimming with them.

Halle Berry obviously has a very attractive physique, but, here, it’s not highlighted like Mădălina Ghenea’s in Deep Fear (2023). These new directors should have and still should be learning from this.

Dark Tide is a must-see for fans of the genre. For those who don’t like thrills, big thrills and who only like romantic comedies, you can carefully avoid this film, unless you want a new thrilling experience. I really appreciate that there’s no jump scare at the end of a shark movie. I just don’t hope that some idiot will do it one day and that hundreds of sheep will follow this new fashion.

Here’s someone else’s review I found: “An atmospheric shark thriller. Much better than ‘Open Water’, but nowhere near as good as ‘the Reef’.”

My Rating

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
